Its approaching Season 2 for the USA Summer Series QUEEN OF THE SOUTH, and I cannot wait to see what happens next. This show intrigued me from the beginning with its timing that came shortly after I had finished the Netflix Series NARCOS. I have always been interested in the enterprising nature of a drug dealer. That may seem a little odd, but I believe that drugs and the “drug business” have always been a staple in modern culture. The sheer desire to create a product and sell it to a target market that wants to buy it is the basic principle of being in business.
Seeing the new promotions with Teresa Mendoza and Camila Vargas in the journey to take over the drug trade in Texas and Mexico made me really think about the reason that I love this show. So, let’s explore the qualities and get you as hyped to watch as I am.
- Taking Control
Teresa was in a comfy relationship with her man, who was coincidently a drug dealer. He stole some money, got caught, and killed, but; he left her a “get out of jail free card” in the form of a book that details locations of the cartel’s operations. Because of this, Teresa and her best friend, Brenda end up having to escape to America.
Most of us can relate to this situation. Look at a layoff, getting fired, repossession, foreclosure, death in the family, major illness or the like that strike a blow to you that you were not prepared for. Oh…you can relate, huh? Yeah…. these things happen. In our real life, maybe we didn’t have a Plan B, which is what we knew we should have, but often don’t. Most of us are not chased from another country, but it can feel like that when the bad things happen to you. Now, you must change your lifestyle and stop spending on things that you would normally not think a second thought about. Now, you should find a new source of income, a new business, part-time job, etc.
Teresa had no time to put a full plan in place, but she knew that she wanted to live and that meant doing what was needed to get to a place of safety.
- Thinking Before Speaking
With the situation that Teresa was facing she had to say just enough to keep her alive. She made sure that she didn’t reveal her full plan at any time. She moved up in the ranks because she was smart and kept a lot to herself, but she was also willing to do some things that others were not, i.e. swallow balloons full of drugs.
I have no intention of suggesting that you should swallow a balloon full of drugs, but I hope by the time you read this message you have come to realization that there is a calling for you do to do something that only you can. Figure out your dreams, and make sure that do not broadcast them to everyone. Someone out there wants your position, your clients, your spouse, your car, etc. Now it’s your job to find out who you can confide in and what information you need to release.
- Finding an Ally
Teresa was also able to gain so much traction because she found a confidant/mentor in fellow drug dealer/muscle, James. He has a sweet spot for her and he can see how she thinks. She has a heart for people, which allows her to see their perspective. Teresa doesn’t believe in killing people just because. She wants to make sure that she just in her decisions and that only people who deserve to get killed do.
For you, think about getting a mentor that looks out for you and helps guide you on a path that is the most advantageous for you. Mentors, REAL mentors, that is; thrive from your success. They appreciate your effort and all that you do to better yourself.
- Being Dependable
Through all the abuse, almost being raped, being drugged, and living in less than desirable conditions, she made the best out of it that she could. While she was in a drug distribution center, Camila Vargas, the BOSS, was looking at her through cameras. She was checking on little things like mileage, time completing tasks, and decisions that were made during deliveries. This just goes to show you that someone is always watching and how fiscally responsible you should be in your business.
This trait of dependability should be important to anyone that is starting a business. When people know that they can count on you they will give you more business, responsibility, and accolades. Part of creating a brand is developing a level of trust that is beyond reproach.
- Spirit
The spirit and willingness to make it through all adversity was clear and evident in this entire series. Teresa would find strength from a future version of herself. She manifested the image that she needed to see to provide her with the will to press on. She could see herself in this pristine white suit, hair slicked backed, being chauffeured in the life that she wanted. Meanwhile, her real circumstances were uncomfortable to say the least as she was sleeping in a cage in a warehouse with about 20 other women who were being used as drug mules. However, she continued to see the person she wanted to be. Now, she just needs to survive, plot, plan, and take a stab at her moment to be the QUEEN!
It might be time for you to fix your crown. Look at the life you want to live and see what is missing. Ask yourself these questions:
- Who do I need to cut off?
- What habits do I need to change?
- Who do you need to align with?
- Where can I find a mentor?
- What do I need to learn?
- Who do I need on my team?
- Who do I want to be?
Once you take the time to devise a plan, you can answer these questions. When you begin to answer the questions, only think about what you want to happen. There is no room for negativity, only improvement.
