#SelfCare Month Day 3 Directive is to Spend time with Family. It may not be the most practical thing for all of us to do especially if your family is not close to you in proximity, but you can make a phone call, send a text, or even post about them on social media. Keeping healthy family ties helps us to have someone to rely on. You may not speak with your family members daily, but here are some ways to stay in touch.
1. Plan a weekly or monthly dinner. This does not have to be stressful! You can all meet at a restaurant and have 1-2 hours of family time. Doing it this way shows no favoritism, and no one has to clean up after. Let each family member suggest a restaurant and then pick from a hat before to make it fair.
2. Plan a Movie Date. The movies is a quick way to spend time together. This is a great idea for those that have a strained or difficult relationship. You will have an immediate connection once the movie is over and you can share your perspective. You may want to choose a movie that neither of you is most passionate about so that it makes the viewing choice more interesting.
3. Get Outdoors! Going outside on a hike, walk, or run can be a great way to exercise and spend time together. I would suggest choosing a location that you haven't visited before and bringing your camera to capture moments. This can increase your photographic acumen and make sure you have memories that last past that day.
4. Meme Wars. This is one of my favorite things to do that more families should participate in. Your group decides on a topic and sends funny memes to express your feelings. There are already so many funny things out there and now you can share them with your family. It builds the anticipation of what's next and allows you to each have a tremendous laugh once your message is received via text. You can also create a group or "pod" in Instagram and put all the family inside of it and share your memes privately with each other. Try using www.memegenerator.net to start your epic battle.
Now that you have multiple ways to spend time with your family...get to it. Just dedicate a couple of minutes or hours to showing people how awesome you at #selfcare. Feel free to share our blog posts via text, email, or on your social media outlets.
